1930: Minh helped create the Indo-Chinese Communist Party
1941: Viet Minh (organization that fought for Vietnamese independence) was created to counter invasion of Vietnam by the Japanese.
1945: Viet Minh gained control of Vietnam from Japan and Ho Chi Minh declared the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, however, French troops arrived back in Vietnam.
1946: War broke out between Viet Minh and the French.
1949: Communist China is formed which allows the Viet Minh to train in China where they do not face the direct interference of French attacks.
1950: United States president, Harry Truman, refused to acknowledge the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
1954: General Giap defeated the French force at Dien Bien Phu which signaled the end of French influence in IndoChina. Vietnam was split and France withdrew their military. Meanwhile, the U.S. Promised 100 million dollars of aid to anti-communist leader, Ngo Dinh Diem.

1970: American troops were further reduced to 280,000 and peace discussions were secretly held in Paris.
1971: Remaining American soldiers totaled 140,000.
1973: A ceasefire order was signed in Paris and the last of the U.S. troops were removed form Vietnam (including POW's).
1975:Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia and the National Liberation Front captured Saigon.
